Move off Squarespace before it becomes the reason you can't grow.
Squarespace makes beautiful sites and quietly caps what you can do with them. Most people leave when SEO, integrations or content volume hit that ceiling.

Squarespace is the best-looking of the closed platforms and it's a genuinely good choice for a small brochure site. The ceiling arrives when you start publishing seriously, need structured content, or want technical SEO control it doesn't expose.
The good news compared with Wix: Squarespace does offer a real export for pages and blog posts. It's imperfect (galleries, product blocks and some layouts don't come through), but it means the migration is a transfer with gaps rather than a rebuild from scratch.
Where Squarespace
runs out.
SEO control you can't reach
Redirect handling, schema and technical fixes are limited to what the platform chooses to expose.
No structured content
Everything is a page or a post. Team members, locations, case studies and services all end up as loose pages.
Integrations you can't build
Connecting to a CRM, booking system or internal tool means whatever Squarespace supports, and nothing else.
Cost that scales oddly
Commerce and advanced features push you up plans quickly, and you're still renting rather than owning.
How we handle
the move.
Export plus gap-filling
We use the Squarespace export where it works and hand-migrate what it drops, galleries, product blocks and complex layouts.
URL mapping and redirects
Squarespace URL patterns mapped to clean WordPress equivalents, redirects live at launch.
Structured content
Team, locations, services and case studies become proper content types instead of loose pages.
Custom theme
Built for your content rather than approximating the Squarespace template you're leaving.
Full SEO control
Metadata, schema, canonicals and redirects under your control for the first time.
Four weeks of monitoring
Rankings watched after launch so anything slipping is caught quickly.

Every migration includes this.
- Squarespace export processed, plus manual migration of what it drops
- URL inventory and 301 redirect map live at launch
- Custom WordPress theme built for your content
- Structured content types for anything repeating
- Images optimised and re-uploaded
- SEO foundations, schema, sitemap, clean markup
- Team training and written documentation
- Four weeks of post-launch monitoring
Why we'd build this on WordPress
WordPress trades convenience for control. You get structured content, unlimited integrations, real SEO control and ownership, and you take on maintenance, which is what a care plan covers.
- Structured content types instead of loose pages
- Real technical SEO control, including redirects and schema
- You own the site and can move it again at any time
How the migration runs.
- 01
Audit and export
We inventory every URL, note which earn traffic or links, and run the Squarespace export to see what it captures.
- 02
Fill the gaps
Galleries, product blocks and complex layouts that the export drops get migrated by hand.
- 03
Design and build
Custom theme with structured content types, designed around what the site actually holds.
- 04
Load and map
Content loaded, redirect map from Squarespace URLs prepared and reviewed by you.
- 05
Launch and monitor
Cutover with redirects live, sitemap submitted, four weeks of monitoring.
What moves the price on
a migration.
We quote fixed prices per project rather than by the hour, so scope is what determines cost. These are the four things that move it most.
Content volume
The export handles pages and posts reasonably. The cost sits in how much it misses and has to be rebuilt by hand.
How many galleries and custom blocks
These are what the export drops most often, and they're the most manual part of the job.
Whether you redesign
Porting the Squarespace look is possible but rarely the best use of the budget, since you're rebuilding templates anyway.
Commerce
Squarespace Commerce products, customers and orders need migrating to WooCommerce, which adds a layer.

Get your fixed-price quoteSquarespace is a good product that is deliberately closed. That's a fair trade while you're small and a real constraint once you're not.
The export makes leaving easier than Wix. The redirect map is still the part that decides whether you keep what you've earned.

Questions businesses
ask before migrating.
Does Squarespace let us export our content?+
Partly. It exports pages and blog posts as a WordPress-compatible file, which is better than Wix offers. It does not export galleries, product blocks, some layout structures, or your images at full quality, so expect a meaningful amount of hand migration on top. We audit exactly what's missing before quoting.
Will we lose rankings?+
Not with a complete redirect map. Squarespace uses its own URL patterns so URLs change, and each one needs a 301 to its closest equivalent live at launch. Sites usually recover within weeks and often improve, because you gain technical SEO control you didn't have.
Is WordPress going to look as good?+
That's a design question, not a platform one. Squarespace templates are well designed, which is the point of them, but a custom WordPress theme is designed specifically for you rather than for thousands of different businesses.
What about our Squarespace store?+
Products, customers and orders migrate to WooCommerce. It's an extra layer of work and worth flagging early, because it changes both the timeline and which platform decisions make sense.
How long does it take?+
3 to 6 weeks for most sites, driven mainly by content volume and how much the export misses.
Will it cost more to run?+
Hosting is usually cheaper than a Squarespace business plan. The new cost is maintenance, which you either handle in-house or put on a care plan. Compare total cost honestly rather than just hosting.
